BEAR SEEKING DONATIONS FOR FRIDAY AUCTION
The Bear on the Square Mountain Festival auction committee is now collecting donations for the Friday Night Live and Silent Country Auctions to be held Friday night, April 21, starting at 5 p.m. in the MainStage Tent.
The Friday Night Auctions, co-chaired by Renee Conaway and Levi Hansard, are the primary source of operating capital used to stage Bear on the Square each year on Dahlonega's Historic Public Square, and this year is the 21st Annual Festival.
The mission of Bear on the Square is to promote and preserve Southern Appalachian culture through music, arts and crafts, and dance. In keeping with that mission, the auction features items that are hand-crafted or promote the lifestyle enjoyed in this area. Auction items have included the work of North Georgia folk artist Billy Roper, work from other local and juried artists taking part in the Bear Festival's Artists Marketplace, and items contributed by businesses, organizations and artists and other individuals from this area.
Please contact Conaway by email at email@example.com to make a donation to the auction and include a description of the item and the approximate retail value. Receipts are provided for tax purposes. Auction items can be previewed as the dates for the festival approach by visiting the auction page at www.bearonthesquare.org.
There is a $5 admission charge for the auction, which covers the cost of a bidding paddle, dinner and wine. Auction food will be from Shenanigans Restaurant & Irish Pub and the Bourbon Street Grille.
The schedule for the auction is as follows:
* 5 p.m - Silent and live auction items can be viewed and food and drink will be served. Silent auction ends at 7 p.m.
* 5:30 p.m. - The featured band, with legendary musicians Curtis Jones and Matt Mundy, will begin performing.
* 7:00 p.m. - The live auction, run by a professional auctioneer Sam Williamson, begins.
The Bear on the Square Mountain Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23. As the time for the event nears, information about performers, artists, activity schedules, sponsors, and other updates can be found on the festival website.
