Bear Hosting SE Region Storytelling Event

The National Storytelling Network (NSN) has named Bear on the Square Mountain Festival as the 2015 Southeast Regional Spotlight Event for Storytelling.

The Southern Order of Storytellers, an affiliate of NSN, has participated at Bear festivals in recent years, and this year will stage an ambitious schedule of storytelling performances on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival. Among those appearing on the Zak McConnell Stage at Hancock Park will be National Storyteller Adam Booth.

SEBA Award to Bear

Bear on the Square festival has been awarded the "Music Venue of the Year" award from the SouthEastern Bluegrass Association in recognition of its "many valuable contributions to The SouthEastern Bluegrass Association and the music community." The annual Dahlonega festival seeks to preserve traditional Appalachian music and art in its two-day event on the third weekend of April. Bear MainStage Bands, Events Announced For 2015

Glenda Pender, president of the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival who also puts together the group of MainStage musical performers each year, has announced this year's lineup for the Saturday and Sunday of the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival weekend (April 18 and 19).

"I'm very excited about this year's lineup, which includes two past winners of the prestigious Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition, several returning local favorites, and some bands which are new to the Bear Festival", said Pender.

The Bear on the Square Mountain Festival has produced its first CD, which features some of our performers. The CD was introduced at the 16th annual Bear on the Square Festival and will continue to be on sale this year.
