REV. JEFF MOSIER LEADS BEAR'S FIRST MOONLIGHT JAM

Bear On The Square Mountain Festival has announced a new special event for its 2017 festival lineup, the Moonlight Jam, sponsored by Jekyll Brewing Company of Alpharetta, Ga.

The Moonlight Jam will take place on Saturday evening, April 22, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the MainStage festival tent.  Like other Bear on the Square events, there will be no charge for admission.

Ralph Taylor, Bear MainStage concert promoter, said the jam will be hosted by one of the most beloved bluegrass musicians in the South, banjo artist Rev. Jeff Mosier (pictured). Combining performances by Mosier and his band and other guest performers, the jam will give festival goers, including jammers in town for the event, an opportunity to bring their instruments and voices and to pick and sing with the pros or to just listen to the music.

Rev. Jeff Mosier is one of the founders of BlueGround UnderGrass and the Aquarium Rescue Unit and has a long and colorful history in the jam band genre. His special ability to combine bluegrass with trance, jazz and rock music have made him an icon in the jam band world. He has shared the musical stage with Leftover Salmon, Widespread Panic, Vassar Clements, the Allman Brothers Band and many more. He toured in l994 with Phish and tutored them in the ways of bluegrass. The Phish Companion noted, "Perhaps no guest artist has had as great an influence on the band’s music as the Rev Jeff Mosier".

Lou Barbato, vice president of sales and marketing for Jekyll Brewing, said, "Jekyll Brewing is thrilled to be the beer partner for the Bear festival, offering a select variety of our top selling craft beers, and the sponsor of the Moonlight Jam. The jam is going to be a magical evening."

MainStage Concert Promoter Taylor added, "The Moonlight Jam will be one of those special events that continue to make the Bear On The Square festival one of the best music festivals in the Southeast. Bring your instruments and bring your voices, and be ready to jam with the Bear."

The 21st annual Bear on the Square Mountain Festival will take place in Dahlonega on Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23. Pre-festival events, including the beginning of jamming on the square and the Live and Silent Country Auction, will occur on Friday, April 21, with two full days of activities on Saturday and Sunday.

Bear on the Square, held in and around Dahlonega's Historic Public Square, is an authentic Appalachian Festival with a program of activities also featuring bluegrass and old-time music, a juried Artists Market Place featuring traditional mountain crafts, storytelling, free music workshops and demonstrations, dance team performances, an old-time mountain dance, an open mic event, and more. More information about the 2017 festival will be available at www.bearonthesquare.org as the dates for the event approach.

Bear on the Square Mountain Festival, Inc. which stages the yearly celebration of Southern Appalachian music, art and folklore, is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit cultural arts organization. A special program, Friends of Bear (www.bearonthesquare.org/node/31), is available as a way for individuals, businesses and organizations to financially support the festival.
