12:00 to 12:45 Song and Dance Fiddle Party for Families I
Moira Nelligan invites you to join hands with your little ones for a simple circle dance to one of her favorite old timey fiddle tunes. Sing Along to some old favorites like Eliza Jane and Coming Round the Mountain with some fun props and dance moves Moira will show you on the spot. Bounce a tiny friend in your lap for Camptown Races, learn a simple jig step to an Irish fiddle tune or just dance however the spirit moves you! For something a little different, Moira will play a romantic accordion song and an ancient Celtic Air that will take you and your kids to another place and time!
1:00 to 1:45 Instrument Show and Tell and Touch
Kids will get a chance to get up close and personal with Moira and her instruments: fiddle, accordion, guitar, Irish drum and more! We'll chat about parts of the instruments, count strings, play loud and soft, fast and slow. We'll ask questions like "how can you make a sweet sound on the fiddle? How can you make crazy sounds happen? How does the accordion work?". Kids will put the bow to the string and get a kick out of helping make the fiddle sing!
2:00 to 2:45 Song and Dance Fiddle Party for Families II
Rhythm time! Bring your flashlights- we're going to find the beat!! We'll find up beats and down beats and slow our beats down like turtles and speed up like rabbits! Parents and kids will shake shakers, tap toes, and move their feet to the beat, all while singing along to easy old favorites like "Pick a Bale of Cotton" and a fiddly "Old MacDonald". For a fun musical challenge, Moira will show you how fruits and vegetables can help you keep the beat to a couple of rhythmically exotic European folk songs.
